INTRODUCTION:-
I visited MALVAN KONKAN last year with Deccan Odyssey.Then I enjoyed the sea fort and the serene Tarkarli beach with Malvani lunch.In that trip,I remember adventure activities like scuba diving in malvan and snorkeling.Soon after,I arrived in Malaysia to snorkel in the South China Sea.Scuba diving still remains on my to-do list.After shifting to Goa,this adventurous activity was on my mind. MALVAN KONKAN This Tuesday we took a quick driving trip to Malvan beach mainly for scuba diving.
SCUBA DIVING IN MALVAN:-
The road that takes boats along the pier to Sindhudurg is lined with vendors offering scuba diving and snorkeling.Most of them were local youth,who probably have basic diving training.They take you on that boat.Which serves as your base for diving a very basic boat with a small changing room at the top.The dive suits they gave us were definitely out of date as they were torn in many places.And had been used excessively.The shoes were new but not feathered.On enquiry,I was told that they are for the guides who accompany us.
TYPES OF DIVES ON OFFER:-
They offer two types of dive commercial and cylinder. MALVAN KONKAN as they call them.First,one has an oxygen supply from a boat and cannot go deeper than 20 feet.In the latter,the oxygen cylinder is tied to your back and you can go as deep as you can physically.In Malvan, however,the depth of the sea where diving is done is not very high,so it may not make much difference from the experience point of view.Add to that the fact that cylinder diving is twice the price of a commercial.Most of the guides speak only Marathi and practical Hindi.For those who do not speak or understand these languages,what can be a limiting factor?They give you basic breathing training with equipment.Although it is as simple as just mouth breathing,It takes some time to get used to it.And do it effortlessly so that you can enjoy the underwater world.
